Parliament yesterday approved legislation introducing a "career path model" for law enforcement agencies and soldiers. Under the legislation, the pay of Hungarians in law enforcement agencies and the army will rise on average by 30% from July of this year and by an annual 5% until January of 2019.

The new legislation will affect soldiers, police, members of the anti-terrorism unit, disaster management staff, prison staff, civic national defence service staff, the Parliament guards, national defence services staff and law enforcement staff at the tax authority. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said earlier that the government was allocating HUF 44 bln for the introduction of the career path model for law enforcement agencies and soldiers.
