The Hungarian government is planning to allow fostered workers temporary leave for seasonal work during the summer months, Cabinet Chief János Lázár said yesterday at his regular weekly press conference.

According to Lázár fostered workers would be granted120 days of leave without pay and during this period they could participate in seasonal work in the agricultural or construction sectors. The government aims to orient fostered workers towards the job market with the initiative, the minister added.

Fostered workers are employed by the government and paid less than minimum wage to work at jobs such as street sweepers or metro ticket takers.

Under the budget plan for 2016, the allocation for fostered work programs would rise by HUF 70 bln to HUF 340 bln, ensuring the participation of 240,000 Hungarians. The bill would allocate HUF 138 bln in support for companies that hire disadvantaged workers.
