Lawmakers to discuss tax proposals on Tuesday

Parliament will meet early next week and on Tuesday, lawmakers will begin a debate on amendments to the tax legislation proposed for 2015.

The government's tax amendment proposal would introduce a tax relief for newly married couples, increase the tax rate on cafeteria allowances provided to employees by employers, and double the personal income tax relief for families raising two children over four years beginning in 2016.

The original proposal was introduced by Economy Minister Mihály Varga. According to the proposal, the special sector taxes would remain in place and a new tax payable by internet service providers would be introduced, at HUF 150 for every gigabyte of  transferred data. Following criticism by opposition parties, trade unions and industry organizations, the parliamentary group of governing party Fidesz proposed a cap on the internet tax.
