La Libre Bélgique: Orbán moves right

Analysis

Following recent losses in the by-election, particularly the latest win by the far-right Jobbik party, Fidesz leader Viktor Orbán has begun moving into Jobbik’s territory in order to regain the party’s popularity through zero tolerance on immigrants and a possible reintroduction of the death penalty, according to Belgian news portal LaLibre.be.

The portal also believes that Jobbik’s recent image-softening strategy was inspired by similar tactics used by France’s National Front, while Fidesz’ move towards the far-right was inspired by Sarkozy under the advice of the prime minister’s unofficial advisor Árpád Habony.
