Jobbik MP: We must fight exodus of youths
Almost half of young Hungarians are considering emigrating for good, and the government is failing to tackle the issue, warns MP Gergely Farkas, of the right-wing Jobbik party.
The 27 year-old MP quoted a recent survey showing that half of the Hungarians aged between 18 and 39 are planning to leave the country, while those who are already abroad are not planning to return, according to the news letter put out by MTVA, the national media authority.
Countering youth emigration should be a priority, and the government should have appointed a secretary of State to deal with the issue, Farkas pointed out. He urged more social housing, real jobs, increased quotas for state-funded places in higher education and a real youth policy.
Jobbik, an extreme-right party, received 20.66% of the votes in the parliamentary elections held on April 6.
