HVG: Beer, wine to dodge state control
The government will monopolize the retail selling of spirits, but beer and wine will be exempt and could be purchased elsewhere, not only in national liquor stores, Hungarian online daily hvg.hu reported today.
Adding confirmation to last week’s rumors, HVG reported that the system of distribution for alcohol would be similar to the national tobacco stores: The sales of spirits would be centrally controlled and sold only in stores licensed by the government.
For catering facilities, retailing of alcoholic beverages will be permitted only where hot dishes are served.
Industry consultations with the government have already started, according to anonymous market players quoted by hvg.hu. National tobacco stores might win the concessions to sell alcohol, the news site noted.
The decision is expected to increase the volume of black imports of alcohol, analysts said.
