Hungary is exploring the opportunities to make up for agricultural deliveries to Iran that have been held up from Ukraine because of the political unrest there, rural development minister Sándor Fazekas told national news service MTI on Friday.

The idea was raised on Thursday by Morshedzadeh Mohammad Reza, Iran's ambassador to Hungary, at a meeting with local businessmen in Debrecen. It is too early to go into details, but Hungary has got agricultural products of outstanding quality, and the Eastern and Middle Eastern markets are especially important for Hungary, the minister said.

The Iranian ambassador mentioned maize, agricultural machinery and spare parts as products Iran is interested in buying from Hungary.

A note from the Rural Development Ministry to MTI recalled that the European Union does not have an embargo against Iran on agricultural trade, and export permits are given instantly.
