Hungarian government to disuss ad tax bill early next week

Meanwhile media is protesting against the submitted advertisement tax bill, Fidesz parliamentary leader Antal Rogán said that the government is going to discuss the bill proposal early next week.

The bill was submitted by Fidesz lawmaker László L. Simon and is entirely backed by the ruling party. Rogán said that the bill is coherent and needs only minor corrections. He added that there is no question about whether the tax would be introduced but discussions might arise on how it should look.

Reflecting on the media’s roar and joint protest he said that it “weirdly resembled” the reaction of the banks a year earlier against the bank levy. According to Rogán everyone has the freedom to say whatever they think, though he regards the act of media as an act of “putting pressure” on the politicians and an attempt for “trying to blackmail” them.

Actions sped up by the end of the week depite that a few days ago, cabinet chief János Lázár said the tax would not be discussed until the end of this summer. He noted that the revenue made by the tax would be spent on modernizing and developing school facilities.
