Hernádi warrant retracted on new amendments
Amendments to Croatian legislation have given Zsolt Hernádi, chairman/CEO of oil-and-gas giant MOL, another chance to appeal to local courts regarding a graft investigation, Croatian news agency HINA reported today.
Croatia’s Office for Suppression of Corruption and Organised Crime (USKOK) said late Monday that amendments to the relevant legislation were the reason why the previous arrest warrant which Croatian authorities had issued for Hernádi in October 2013 should be replaced by “a new decision” on conducting the investigation and Hernádi is now entitled to appeal such decision.
Within eight days since the receipt of the decision, Hernádi’s defense team is eligible to lodge an appeal and the appeal will be dealt with by the competent court, according to USKOK.
Hernádi’s name was included on Interpol’s wanted persons list after Croatian police issued a warrant for his arrest on suspicion of the 2008/09 bribery of then-Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader.
