Gov’t to bar details of tobacco tenders through law

Government

The government is planning changed to legislation on the freedom of information legislation with the purpose of hiding the details of the recently awarded tobacco licenses, according to Gergely Karácsony of the opposition Együtt-PM organization. The proposed changes would bar access to any public information without proper oversight from an authority, Karácsoy told the political daily Népszabadság. Opposition parties have sought legal action along with a group of civil liberties groups and media outlets, demanding the details of how the controversial selection process of the license recipients was performed.
