Lawmakers Clear State of Emergency Extension

Parliament

MPs mandated the government to extend the state of emergency due to the war in neighboring Ukraine by another 180 days until May 23, 2024, in a vote in parliament on Monday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

Lawmakers approved the measure with a vote of 131 for, 52 against, and a single abstention.

In their justification for the measure, the authors of the bill said the consequences for Hungary of the war in Ukraine, in terms of refugees, economy, and energy, had "not changed in the recent period".

The present state of emergency is set to expire on November 25.
