The government will reimburse the district heating service providers for their additional expenses resulting from the unification of non-residential water charges at the beginning of the year, the Ministry of Energy Affairs announced in a release on its website.

The amendment to the ministerial decree on subsidies for sector players may be announced in the near future after social consultation, the ministry said. The service providers operating in nearly 100 settlements will collectively receive HUF 7 billion more in resources in 2024.

From the first of January, non-residential consumers will pay uniform basic and consumption-proportional fees instead of the more than 900 types of water and sewerage fees previously.

The amendment evened out the difference of up to 49 times between the lowest and the highest item for drinking water.

The change did not affect residential fees, the government will maintain the utility reduction for families in the usual form, they wrote.
