Bencsik: Conference focuses on Orbán's ouster

A conference that included former Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány and American charge d'affaires André Goodfriend discussed the possibility of encouraging Fidesz to replace Hungary’s prime minister, András Bencsik, editor-in-chief of the government-friendly Hungarian weekly Demokrata, said on his Facebook page yesterday.

Bencsik said conference participants jointly agreed in a private discussion that, even if Fidesz is entrenched in power, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán could be pushed out of his position, and that the only way to do this is through a political coup inside the party.

Bencsik said the participants agreed that three Fidesz officials would be capable of becoming Prime Minister: Tibor Navracsics (European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport), Zoltán Pokorni (founder of Fidesz and currently mayor of Budapest’s district 12) and Mihály Varga (National Economy Minister).
