5,000 protest against gov’t, new demo planned

Analysis

More than 5,000 joined an anti-government demonstration organized by Facebook page “MostMi!” Friday in front of the Hungarian Opera House in Budapest, on then the third anniversary of one of the first mass demonstrations against the current government – a protest against the new constitution held on January 2, 2012.

Another demonstration is being organized on January 10 by another Facebook page, in protest of planned restrictions on freedom of assembly.

Anti-government demonstrations of tens of thousands people, and in one case 100,000, began on October 26, with opposition to a proposed internet tax, which was since abandoned by the government. Demonstrators have since made it clear that they have a multitude of problems with the current leadership.

SUPPORT THE BUDAPEST BUSINESS JOURNAL

Producing journalism that is worthy of the name is a costly business. For 27 years, the publishers, editors and reporters of the Budapest Business Journal have striven to bring you business news that works, information that you can trust, that is factual, accurate and presented without fear or favor.
Newspaper organizations across the globe have struggled to find a business model that allows them to continue to excel, without compromising their ability to perform. Most recently, some have experimented with the idea of involving their most important stakeholders, their readers.
We would like to offer that same opportunity to our readers. We would like to invite you to help us deliver the quality business journalism you require. Hit our Support the BBJ button and you can choose the how much and how often you send us your contributions.
