Budapest's Central European University (CEU) is among the best 100 universities in the world in politics and international studies, according to Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a British company specializing in education and study abroad, Magyar Nemzet daily said on Friday.

QS's World University Rankings placed CEU in the same league as George Washington University and other renowned universities in Stockholm, Amsterdam, Glasgow and Birmingham. CEU has also made it in two other categories in the Best 200 list.

In sociology it is in the best 101-150 group, with the only other Central European universities on the list being the University of Vienna and Charles University in Prague. According to QS's philosophy rankings, CEU is also in the best 101-150 category.

Another two Hungarian universities have made it into the QS Best 200 list by subject: the earth sciences list features Budapest ELTE University in the best 101-150 category, next to the Freie Universitat Berlin and Japan's Hokkaido University. The chemical engineering world ranking list features the University of Szeged in the next 151-200 list, the paper said.
