Hungary plans to restart gas flows to Ukraine in January

Hungary plans to restart gas deliveries to Ukraine in January, the local representative of Ukraine's state-owned Naftogaz told Hungarian business daily Világgazdaság. A regional gas hub may also be established near the Hungarian-Ukrainian border, the paper noted.

Hungarian pipeline operator FGSZ suspended reverse gas flows to Ukraine late in September in order to replenish domestic reserves.

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said at the time that the filling of Hungary's gas stores would be accelerated and that an agreement regarding large-scale deliveries from Gazprom had been reached. The prime minister noted that Hungary had to be prepared for the possibility of a shutdown of the pipeline on its border with Ukraine through which it gets deliveries of Russian gas.
