WANO advocates panel of experts to support Paks owner MVM
World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) has recommended setting up an independent panel of international experts that would operate with state-owned Hungarian energy group MVM, the owner of Hungary's only nuclear power plant in Paks in central Hungary, according to an MVM statement.
The recommendation was included in a report published in November 2014, in which WANO experts studied the impact of the relation between Paks and its parent company on nuclear safety. The WANO review was generally positive and reaffirmed that MVM Group is operating in line with international standards and that the safe operation of the Paks nuclear power plant is guaranteed, MVM said.
MVM added, however, that, among other recommendations, the report said it would be reasonable to set up an international experts panel that would enable MVM to provide additional support for the safe operation of the Paks nuclear plant.
