Vehicle makers boost industrial output in February

A strong performance by Hungary's vehicle manufacturers continued to lift industrial output in February, a second reading of data published by the Central Statistics Office (KSH) on Monday shows.

Output of the vehicle manufacturing segment jumped 27.2% in February from the same month a year earlier. Output of the computer, electronic and optical equipment segment fell by 7.7%, output of food companies rose 3.1% and chemicals output increased 17.1%. Pharmaceutical sector output was down 4.1%, but rubber and plastics output rose 2.0% and machinery output climbed 5.5%.

Overall output of Hungary's industrial sector rose an unadjusted 8.1% year-on-year in February. Adjusted for the number of workdays, output was also up 8.1%. Output growth accelerated from 6.1% in January. The increases came from a low base in both months.

In a month-on-month comparison, seasonally- and workday-adjusted output rose 1.6%.

Domestic sales of industrial companies fell 0.5% year-on-year in February. Export sales were up 11.4%.
