More than three quarters, precisely 87% of Hungarians use internet on a daily basis, while 70% of smartphone owners use their devices daily to browse the internet, a survey published today by eNet Internetkutató and Tanácsadó Kft. reveals.

The survey found that 89% of people living in urban areas, and 86% of people in smaller communities use the internet more than once a day. The results suggest that the digital gap has been on the decline in the country.

Both in urban areas and in smaller communities, people prefer to surf the internet in their homes, chiefly in the evenings, the survey said.

People living in urban areas use the internet at workplace/schools and while commuting at 60% and 45%, respectively, more than in smaller communities, where figures come to 51% and 34% respectively.

According to the respondents, not having an internet connection would make it difficult to organize one’s daily life and could cause problems mainly in accessing information, doing administrative tasks, working and studying.

The results of the survey also revealed that 82% of people in urban areas, and 85% of people in smaller communities visit their Facebook profiles daily. Interestingly, more than two thirds of Hungarian adult internet users would rather give up watching television for a month than suspending their internet usage.

The online survey was carried out between the end of April and the beginning of May 2015.
