Some 31,500 left Hungary in 2014; domestic relocation grows
In 2014, some 31,5000 Hungarians left the country for longer than a year, more than 50% as compared to a year earlier, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) data published by vg.hu revealed on Saturday.
Of the emigrant population, 44% are under 30 years old and 77% are under 40 years old, with 54% being male and almost two-thirds single. The most popular destinations are Germany, UK and Austria.
Immigrants make up 1.4% of the Hungarian population and 70% of them come from within the EU. Domestic relocation is increasing as well, Budapest is the prime destination while northeastern Hungary has the highest net rate of people leaving.
