Southeastern Hungary saw the inauguration of a 32-km section of rail line after a renovation of HUF 39 bln expanded the route between Gyomaendrőd and Békéscsaba to 160 km, Hungarian news agency MTI reported yesterday.

The stretch of railway that runs across the border, to Arad in Romania, will be renovated during the 2014-2020 European Union funding period, state secretary Zsolt Becsey said. The renovation was carried out by a consortium of Swietelsky Vasúttechnika, Kőzgép and Strabag Általános Építő. The line is situated along two trans-European transport corridors, and approximately 85% of the project costs were covered by European Union funding.
