Official: Hungary, Germany want peace in Ukraine

Initiatives

Hungary and Germany are in complete agreement regarding the need to address the embargo ordered by Russia, Gyula Budai, ministerial commissioner for measures related to Russia's ban on European Union farm products, told Hungarian news agency MTI in Berlin yesterday.

According to Budai, it is in the mutual interest of both countries to find a peaceful solution to the Ukrainian-Russian crisis as soon as possible, in order to make their exports available once again to the Russian market.

Budai spoke to MTI following his negotiations with head of the Bundestag's farm committee Gitta Connemann and parliamentary state secretary of Germany's farm ministry Peter Bleser.

The Russian embargo imposed on EU farm products for a year last August brought about a 30% decrease in Hungarian agricultural exports to Russia and caused losses of €80 mln to Hungary, MTI reported.
