OAH: Hungary’s nuclear facilities meet all safety requirements
Hungary's nuclear facilities meet all international and domestic safety requirements, the director of the National Atomic Energy Office (OAH) said at a start-of-the-year press conference in Budapest yesterday.
Gyula Fichtinger said 23 incidents had been recorded last year, each one "out of scale", that is, with no safety relevance as gauged by the seven-level International Nuclear Event Scale (INES).
The OAH carried out almost 500 safety inspections last year, he said.
Headcount at the OAH will be raised by 20 this year. The new staff will receive special training for 18-24 months in preparation for the construction of the new blocks at Paks, Hungary's sole commercial generator of nuclear power.
