Hungary’s Tax and Customs Authority (NAV) raided the warehouse of an individual who was advertising goods for sale through international social networking site Facebook, the authority announced on its website today.

Officials of NAV confiscated clothes worth in excess of HUF 200,000 in a warehouse in Budaörs (near the capital). NAV has been aware that Facebook users avoid taxation when selling goods on the social networking site and said they would be closely observing such activity in the future.

The individual was selling clothes with Mickey Mouse and Star Wars logos, for which they had paid no trademark royalty. NAV has begun court proceedings against the seller.

Producing journalism that is worthy of the name is a costly business. For 27 years, the publishers, editors and reporters of the Budapest Business Journal have striven to bring you business news that works, information that you can trust, that is factual, accurate and presented without fear or favor.

We would like to offer that same opportunity to our readers. We would like to invite you to help us deliver the quality business journalism you require. Hit our Support the BBJ button and you can choose the how much and how often you send us your contributions.
