KSH: Trade surplus revised up

Hungary had a €279 mln trade surplus in August, down €217 mln year-on-year, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) revealed in its second estimate report today. Exports were down 1.7% and reached €7.3 bln. Imports were up 3.9% at €5.7 bln.

In the first eight months of 2014, 79% of the country’s exports went to other European Union countries and 75% of the country's imports arrived from the EU.

In the first half of 2014, trade surplus came to €4 bln, growing by €20 mln year-on-year.

In the machinery and vehicles segment, exports were up 8.5%, while imports increased by 8%, compared to the same period of the previous year.

In the manufacturing segment, which accounts for about one third of total goods, sale exports rose 6.4% and imports were up 9.7%.

Exports of food, tobacco and beverages showed an increase of 6.4%, while imports grew 6.7%.
