KSH: Trade surplus revised down in June

Hungary had a trade surplus of €584.1mln in June, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) reported today, revising its first reading downwards from €609.7mln.

Imports came to €6.484 bln while exports reached €7.068 bln. The volume of imports grew by 9.3% from a year earlier, while the volume of exports rose 9.5%.

Imports in H1 exceeded €38.541 bln and exports amounted to €41.825 bln. Trade balance surplus totaled €3.284 bln.

Forint-term export prices edged up slightly by 0.1% in H1, and import prices were slightly down by 0.3%, while terms of trade improved by 0.4%. The forint depreciated against the currency euro by 3.7% and firmed by 0.7% against the American currency dollar.

In the machinery and vehicles segment, which accounts for about half of the total goods trade, exports and imports increased both by 9.0% in the first half.

In the manufacturing segment, exports rose 6.8% and imports were up by 10%.

Exports of food, tobacco and beverages showed an increase of 8.4% while imports grew 8.1%.

Energy imports rose 4.6% in volume terms while forint prices declined.
