KSH: Retail sales growth of 8.2% best since 2004

Hungarian retail sales saw a year-on-year rise of 8.2% in January, accelerating from 5.7% in the previous month, preliminary calendar year-adjusted data released by the Central Statistics Office (KSH) today reveal. This is the biggest year-on-year increase in retail sales recorded by KSH since 2004.

According to unadjusted data, retail sales in January were up 7.7% from December, following the previous month’s increase of 6.2%

KSH added that retail food sales increased by an adjusted 5.5% and non-food sales were up by 11.1%, both accelerating from the previous month. Vehicle fuel sales increased by 9.4% from a year earlier following a 10.8% rise in December.
