Hungary, Russia sign nuclear partnership
Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority and Russian Rostekhnadzor signed an agreement on scientific and technical cooperation in Moscow yesterday, enabling an exchange of information about licencing, safety regulations and supervision for the peaceful use of nuclear energy. The discussion also addressed legal and technical issues and assistance with potential problems, the Hungarian authority's head Gyula Fichtinger said. Talks about the renewal of a 2001 agreement have been ongoing for years, he added.
Information exchanged between the two parties is also expected to involve issues of safety regulations, transport and safe storage of radioactive waste and spent fuel.
According to Fichtinger, the Hungarian authority signed similar agreements earlier this year with the Finnish and Turkish authorities, and Hungary has altogether signed 11 bilateral contracts with international authorities about the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
