Hungary CPI accelerates to 6.6% in September

Consumer prices in Hungary rose 6.6% year-on-year in September, accelerating from a 6.0% increase in August, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) said on Thursday.

Consumer prices 0.4% month-on-month in September after rising 0.1% in August. The estimates of emerging market analysts in London for the September year-on-year headline figure moved in a wide range between 6.1% and 6.1%. The consensus figure for September twelve-month consumer price inflation of Hungarian analysts polled by the daily Napi Gazdasag was 6.2%.
January-September prices were up 5.8% from a year earlier. Consumer price inflation slowed to 3.9% last year from 4.9% in 2010. The twelve-month CPI was the highest since a 6.7% rate measured in July 2008.
Twelve-month inflation was boosted by vehicle fuel prices, some items of household energy prices as well as excise tax rises pushing up spirits and tobacco prices. Food prices also rose above the average rate both in a monthly and in a twelve-month comparison.
