Hungarian income distribution pear-shaped
Hungary’s income distribution resembles a pear; skinny at the top and fat at the bottom, the research of GfK and Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA) revealed today.
The rearch said the elite incomes at the top of the pear go to 2% of society, followed by 10.5% in the upper middle class. But, the report noted, the majority of the populace is in the lower income groups, with the lowest level of incomes comprising 23% of Hungarian society.
The resarchers called for policy changes to address the gross inequalities that they see in Hungarian incomes.
