Gov't: Sanctions on Russia don't hit Paks plans

Pharma

Preparation for the expansion of the Paks nuclear power plant is not affected by the planned international sanctions against Russia for the moment, government commissioner for the expansion Attila Aszódi said on Kossuth Rádió yesterday.

"What is going on in international politics now does not have to interfere with the preparation phase, but we must closely follow what is happening at the European Union level. If broad-ranging sanctions are introduced against Russia, that could affect the project," Aszódi told Kossuth Rádió. He noted that Europe is "connected to Russia by a thousand links" and said a solution should be found that does not seriously hurt the interests of Europe.

Hungary signed an intergovernmental agreement with Russia in January on the construction of the two blocks at its sole nuclear power plant. Russia is providing €10 bln in credit for the investment.
