Hungarian universities are successful in attracting students from abroad. More than ten thousand foreigners enrolled in Hungarian universities and colleges last academic year, daily Magyar Nemzet reported today, citing official data.

1,426 students arrived from Germany, 701 from Slovakia, 551 from Romania, 458 from Turkey, 433 from Brazil, 399 from France, and 398 from Spain. There is also a significant number of students holding dual citizenship.

The largest number of foreign applicants - 1 382 - came to study medicine, followed by dentistry, veterinary science, and nursing students.

2 332 foreign youth attended Hungarian universities last year within the framework of international educational schemes such as ERASMUS and CEEPUS.

The goal of the Hungarian government is to triple the number of foreign students within ten years, the paper noted.
