Central Europe's energy security Europe's responsibility
The responsibility of ensuring energy security in central Europe lies with all of Europe, not only the affected region, and the EU must therefore play a part in it, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said today.
He said at a two-day meeting of foreign ministers from the Visegrad Four states, the Nordic Council and the Baltics that all participants were in agreement about energy security being the "hottest topic" in Central Europe.
"As a result, it is a fair expectation that the European Union should finally provide answers regarding which energy investment projects will get support from European institutions," Szijjártó said. Establishing a north-south infrastructure would represent real progress for the region, he added.
In addition to energy security, the meeting's main topics included Eastern partnership, the situation in Ukraine and terrorism.
