Bloomberg places Tokaj among the World's Next Big Wine Regions
Hungarian wine region Tokaj, with its 5,500 hectares of vineyards, at an 800-foot elevation on volcanic slopes, is among the world’s emerging wine regions as the reputation of “old” and “long-famous” regions fade away, Bloomberg reported.
“As Eastern Europe's class act for wine, the historic Tokaj region is getting a €330 mln investment over the next five years to upgrade its vineyards and bolster its reputation” the report says.
The report praises Hárslevelü and flagship furmint for being a “key varietal in the luscious sweet wines associated with the region.” The report also mentions the “latest craze” of “a newly available dry versions of furmint, Hungary’s alternative to chardonnay and riesling”.
