Association for re-establishing a natl carrier initiates talks with gov't
The Association for Hungarian Air Travel (Malért) on Wednesday officially requested the start of talks with the National Development Ministry, the association's chairman Mihály Vécsei told MTI.
Vécsei said the timing of the request was justified by the growing support for the association.
A week earlier, Vécsei spoke at a conference about plans by former Malév CEO Tamás Déri to establish a new national carrier.
Malév, which was Hungary's national airline for more than 60 years, was grounded in February and placed in receivership.
The National Development Ministry said it was gauging the conditions necessary for the establishment of a new Budapest-based national airline, responding to a query by MTI.
"In the course of reviewing the possibilities, special emphasis must be placed on identifying a suitable business model capable of ensuring the financially established and stable operation of a new airline that satisfies both regional and international needs," the ministry said.
