Weekend Storm Damage Could Reach HUF 650 mln

Weather

Alfa Vienna Insurance Group received nearly 2,000 claims within the first few days of August, reaching 7,000 when added to the damage reports in connection with the storms in the last three weeks of July.

Following the storm that hit the entire country, nearly 2,000 people filed claims with the home insurance company in the first four days of August.

Most claims were reported from the counties of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg and Baranya, with the raging wind and torrential downpours causing the most trouble. Among the cities, most claims reported to the insurance company were from Budapest.

Experts at Alfa Insurance say that they expect at least 5,700 additional cases following the storms in early August. According to their estimate, the total damage value of the early August storms may reach HUF 650 mln. In 41% of the reports the significant damage was caused by heavy rain, and in 28%, by flooding.

The forecast of the National Meteorological Service predicts similarly stormy days. Alfa Insurance emphasizes the importance of damage prevention in connection with current cases, drawing attention to foresight and caution, since according to their experience, most damages can be prevented with preparation.

In the event of a storm, it is recommended to store the vehicles in a covered place and to keep the windows closed, the company notes. The protection of electronic equipment is also important; it is worth using surge protection devices and disconnecting devices from the network during stormy weather. Increased attention must also be paid to the creation of protected places for our pets.
