170,000 e-tills connected to tax office
Hungarian businesses have started using more than 170,000 tills that communicate directly with the national Tax and Customs Authority (NAV) of Hungary, the National Economy Ministry announced yesterday, a day after the deadline for putting the tills into operation.
The government decided in the autumn of 2012 to make the tills mandatory in an effort to crack down on tax evasion. The timeframe for compliance was laid down in February 2013. National Economy Minister Mihály Varga said earlier that the tills had raised VAT paid by retail businesses by HUF 106 bln in the first half of the year.
