Windows XP phase-out to cost billions in healthcare
The support termination of the popular Windows XP operating system will likely cost the healthcare system several billion forints, local business daily Világgazdaság has reported.
Some 90% of all computers in healthcare institutions use the software, a total of over 27,000 terminals. Replacement of which would alone cost in the hundreds of millions. However, most of the computers are outdated and won’t be able to run more advanced programs meaning they have to be replaced.
Microsoft Hungary has already begun discussions with Pharmacy and Health Development Institute (GyEMSzI) officials on the problem, while the National Infocommunications Services Company (NISz) is reportedly in the process of reaching a deal with Microsoft to remedy the situation at least in the public sphere.
