Croatia/Hungary/Ukraine gas corridor gets EU approval

World

The reported agreement on a Croatia/Hungary/Ukraine gas corridor that would draw from the Trans-Adriatic pipeline in an effort to control energy security in the three nations has already entered the next phase of realization, according to Ukraine-based media.

From the European Union meeting of heads of state in Brussels, Ukrainian Energy-and-Coal Industry Ministry Eduard Stavytsky reported today that EU authorities have approved the route to his country via Croatia and Hungary.

We have agreed all issues on a new route – the Adriatic-Hungarian-Ukrainian corridor – for the supply of natural gas from an LNG terminal on Kirk Peninsula through transport systems of Hungary to our gas storage facilities in Ukraine,” Stavytsky said, touting the agreement as a “powerful step toward diversification of energy supply routes and enhancing energy security of the whole of Europe.”

An official declaration establishing the corridor will be signed by the three countries’ prime ministers in Kiev in early November.
