Pandemic Accelerated Internet, Mobile Use

The coronavirus pandemic has accelerated the use of the Internet and mobile communication devices in Hungary, and in many areas usage in Hungary has reached the EU average, according to the annual report of the Central Statistical Office (KSH) on the use of information communication devices (ICT).

Last year, 91% of Hungarian households had broadband Internet access, which was only one percentage point below the EU average.

Since 2015, the internet access of Hungarian households has increased continuously, increasing by 15 percentage points in six years, while the EU average was an increase of 11 percentage points, they found.

Broadband internet penetration in the capital and Pest county was 95.6% and 93.6%, respectively, but even in the region with the lowest penetration, Northern Hungary, it was not lower than 86% (86.3%).
