Only 207 mm of precipitation fell on average nationally by the end of July, making it the driest first seven months since 1901, the National Meteorological Service (OMSZ) wrote on Facebook.

According to OMSZ, in many places, such as in the drier Great Plain, this year's precipitation total may not have even reached 150 mm, less than half the usual amount.

Even in wetter regions of the country, only a few places have figures above 400 mm.

In contrast, in the extremely rainy year 2010, 575 mm fell nationally in the first seven months of the year, which was close to the average annual amount.
