Pallet maker launches pellet business
Fashion Export-Import is investing more than half a billion forints in building a plant that will turn sawdust, the byproduct of its pallet business, into wood pellets, Hungarian news agency MTI reported today.
Fashion Export-Import spun off the wood pellet business into Pellet-International, said owner and managing director István Ónodi. The unit has already completed a HUF 257 mln production hall and is installing almost HUF 300 mln of machinery. Test production will start this fall, Ónodi added.
Pellet fuels are heating fuels made from compressed biomass. Wood pellets are the most common type. A form of wood fuel, wood pellets are generally made from compacted sawdust or other wastes from sawmilling and other wood products manufacture.
The plant is expected to turn an annual 5,000 tons of sawdust into pellets. Fashion Export-Import was granted almost HUF 100 mln from European Union funds for its investment.
