NIF fined for declaring unregistered company tender winner

Hungary's Public Procurement Arbitration Board (KDB) has fined the National Infrastructure Development Company (NIF) HUF 2 mln for declaring an unregistered company the winner of a tender, a resolution published on KDB's website shows.

NIF declared a consortium of ArcheoGeép and Altamira Régészeti the winner of the HUF 272 mln tender to carry out an archaeological survey of the area of the planned M86 motorway in 2013. One of the tender losers, Platina Bau, launched a procedure after discovering there was no record of Altamira in the national registry of companies or in the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry's records. The matter was also brought before the court, before it came to the attention of the KDB. The Kuria, Hungary's highest court, ruled that NIF had been obligated to check whether the tender winners existed and it declared the tender invalid.
