MOL chief’s trial postponed

Issues

The Zagreb County Court postponed the trial of MOL CEO Zsolt Hernádi, charged for alleged corruption, as the supreme court has still not made a ruling on an appeal by the defense's counsel concerning a translation of the indictment into a language Hernádi can understand, Hungarian news agency MTI reported today. The county court had earlier rejected the request for the translation.

The Zagreb County Court earlier scheduled Hernádi's first hearing today. Hernádi is charged with offering €10 million in bribes to former Croatian President Ivo Sanander for letting Hungarian oil and gas company MOL acquire a majority stake in its peer INA. Hernádi rejected the accusation, while Ivo Sanander has been sentenced to ten years for other reasons.

MOL was not a party to the lawsuit.
