MÁV to start InterCity carriage production

State-owned Hungarian railway company MÁV is to launch the production of an InterCity carriage developed by the company, Hungarian business daily Napi Gazdaság reported today.

“We have obtained all necessary licences to produce carriages that meet European standards”, MÁV chairman-CEO Ilona Dávid informed the paper. The final version of the prototypes designed by MÁV engineers was unveiled last March. The developing project cost HUF 1.4 bln, including a HUF 462 mln EU grant.

MÁV now has to decide on several issues, i.e. which of its bases is best suited for the carriage production and what percentage of the content will be Hungarian, the chairwoman added. The company should also calculate the expected manufacturing costs.
