New Car Registrations Down 3.4% Last Year

The number of new passenger car registrations in Hungary fell 3.4% to 107,720 in 2023, the Hungarian Association of Vehicle Importers (MGE) said this week, according to autopro.hu.

Fully electric vehicles accounted for 5.4% of the total, and plug-in hybrids for 5.1%. Light commercial vehicle registrations rose 17.5% to 20,749. Heavy commercial vehicle registrations increased 11.3% to 6,344.

Bus registrations were up 17.5% at 820, while motorcycle registrations rose by 26% to 6,549. The number of used auto registrations fell by 16.2% to 105,667.

MGE projects that new passenger car registrations will be around 100,000 in 2024, putting EV sales at 7,500. Light commercial vehicle registrations could reach 20,000.
