Hungary to establish new wastewater treatment system
Hungary-based Szennyvízújrahasznosító Kft. has signed a franchise agreement with Applied CleanTech to use its Sewage Recycling System (SRS) in wastewater treatment facilities in the country. The first system is due to be installed in Hungary in October.
The turnover of Hungary’s wastewater treatment sector is approximately €100 million, which is expected to be reduced with the help of this €10.5 million investment in the next five years. Applied CleanTech installed systems will manufacture cellulose from local wastewater.
The new technology utilized by the system enables a significant reduction in the operational costs of wastewater treatment plants, reduces sludge volumes, minimizes greenhouse gas emissions and recycles sewage into Recyllose™, a raw material used for the industrial production of plastics and paper.
“The future of wastewater treatment is to enable an economy to be based on recycling valuable materials from wastewater.,” said Dr. Refael Aharon, CEO and founder of Applied CleanTech. The company says it is in advanced negotiations with other countries to expand the system worldwide; it is currently used in Israel, Mexico, Scotland and the Netherlands.
