Hungary in attempt to restart cattle export to Kazakhstan, Belarus
Agriculture Administration Minister Endre Kardeván has held meetings in Kazakhstan and Belarus this week in an attempt to get Hungarian cattle exports to the countries restarted.
European Union member states are currently banned from shipping cattle to Kazakhstan, due to the 2011 outbreak and discovery of the Schmallenberg virus in several European Union states.
Kardeván assured that Hungarian livestock is free of Schmallenberg -- indeed, zero cases of the virus have been reported in the country -- and promised that tests and reportage of results may be undertaken in 10 days to prove it.
In Belarus, Kardeván was told that Hungarian cattle export to that country may recommence if Hungarian authorities supply written certification of the animals’ health. When exports to the country are set to recommence, officially-appointed veternarians from both nations will independently test samples taken from Hungarian livestock.
