Hungarians most internet-a-holics of the region

Analysis

A research on behalf of Google explored the internet surfing habits of the region; including Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania and Poland, in March. Hungary is the leading country in the measures of internet penetration, reaching 62%.

Internet seems to be a serious, and probably soon unbeatable, competitor for television. Hungarian internet enthusiasts use the “almighty” net at home in 98%. One third surfs the internet even while watching the television, using smartphones and tablets in two third. Many “onliners” use their television as projector or graphical interface connected to a device having internet. Interest in TV seems to decrease unless internet is available on them.

Fixed schedules and rigidity of television seems to be the reason why TV is lagging behind. Three fourth of Hungarians watch online streaming videos and little more than half of them use these services for listening to music.

Internet has inevitably become part of our life. One fourth of Hungarians get online as a first act right after waking up in the morning.  When seeking for information, 77% of Hungarians consult the internet, 38% monitors the news from abroad and 30% even reads online news portals on vacations.

The increasing popularity of the internet has brought the advent of many online businesses, fueled advertising and created a new medium for publishing information and news.
