State-owned Hungarian National Trade House Company (MNKH) is about to open its first unit in the Americas, Hungarian business daily Napi Gazdaság reported today.

The new branch will open in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) in a few days, CEO György Kerekes said to the newspaper. A second unit will open in Mexico at the end of the year and a third one in Chile in 2015.

MNKH was set up by the state to find new markets for Hungarian companies in Asia and in the former Soviet Empire, as part of the government’s Eastern-facing strategy.

It has established trade houses in Astana, Baku, Moscow, Beijing and Abu Dhabi.

After targeting developing countries, MNKH will now focus on the United States, Canada, Japan and Korea, CEO Kerekes said.
